Chrysler Repair: 97 Stratus: no power at data link port, solenoid pack, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: Hi i have a 97 stratus 2.4 auto recently i got into the whole lim-mode loop. I've replaced everything around except the solenoid pack and im still stuck, but another problem has developped along the way...I can't read the codes through the data link port anymore - there is no power at it. In about the same time my dash doesnt shut itself off for another 5 seconds after i remove the key. Could all these problem be related in any way and how do i sort out?

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
The 12V supply to the data link connector is on pin 16 pink wire and the grounds are on pins 4 and 5 black wire and black/violet wire, respectively. The 16 and 4 wires come directly out of the fuse box, while the 5 comes from the body control module ground. The actual common body ground point for the ground wires is a bolt located just in front of the driver door opening, a bit abouve the floor level, hidden behind the kick panel so check out that to be sure it is clean and tightly attached to the metal of the body. The fuse 5 in the fuse box provides the 12V to the pink wire. So check all that out to begin. Lets get that sorted out first.

QUESTION: Ok, i checked it, Grounds are good. There is no power to pin 16, so i checked the fuse there is no power to it either.

Also I fixed the limpy tranny. It was the solenoid. I ignored the warnings about not opening it so it happened to be two wires that had came out for some reason. The soldering must have been pretty weak from the factory.

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
Fuse 5 in the dash box gets 12v from fuse 4 (20 amp) in the box under the hood via a red/black wire. That fuse is connected to the battery all the time so it should be 'hot'. I'm glad to learn that you found the issue with the trans to be wiring.

QUESTION: hi Ron,
I checked the fuse last night and it was rusted through but not really obvious. It was just inside the plastic. Thanks again for the info. I have no diaghram to go by so this really helps alot.. Although my the limp-mode returned tonight - i guess i just doesn't give up. I noticed that my rpm increase more than the speed hard to notice unless im at higher gear. In other words it feels more like slipping and i Wonder if that's the new solenoid or the Throttle positioning sensor. before i get into limp i got the CEL it gives: p1776, p0740, and p0700. I will start with TPS as it's easier. I know it can't be the tranny slipping it only started now.

Answer
Hi Mike,
I don't think the tps has anything to do with limp mode. I am not clear as to which solenoid you replaced in the transmission. The codes could be due to a problem with the solenoid/pressure switch pack as I read them. Have you thought of doing that? It is worth a try if the alternative is a rebuild.
