Ford Repair: 97 Mustang GT transmission removal, mustang gt, minneapolis mn

Question
Do I need to remove the exhaust in order to take the transmission out? Looks like two bolts for the starter and not sure if exhaust will not give clearance. Thanks in advance. John W. Minneapolis, MN

  It might not be absolutely necessary, but that's the way I've always done it.  You don't need to disconnect the entire exhaust, just the intermediate pipes (the ones that run from the exhaust manifolds back to the mufflers).  Even if it's possible to get the transmission out with the exhaust still on, removing the exhaust will make your job so much easier.  Hope this helps.
