Chrysler Repair: 01 T & C 3.8L: HVAC Blower and radio failed, fuse box, control sort

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland,
I am working
On a 2001 town and country, 2 wheel drive 3.8L. The blower to the front a/c quit blowing, but the back works. I replaced the motor, it still doesn't work and the stereo also stopped. There are sliding levers for bass, midrange and treble with small orange lights, and those lights just blink. I'm thinking it is some sort of theft deterrent when the battery is disconnected for the radio. As for the blower, I am lost. And I only see the power distribution center, and no other fuse box to check.  Can you help with either of these problems?
Thank you,
Clay

ANSWER: Hi Clay,
Do you have a conventional or automatic temp control sort of HVAC control panel? That might be relevant to know. Did the blower stop operating on all speeds or did high only work? Check that possibility because if the blowr motor resistor block fails then you loose all the voltage levels except the full 12V that blows at full speed. Fuse 10 in the box under the hood is what powers the blower, and it should show 12v when you turn on the blower. The 12v is switched on by the blower motor relay in that same box, nearby to the fuse. So let me know if there is or is not power on both sides of fuse 10 when you ask for blower. There are no other fuses than those in the box in the engine compartment.
On the stereo, check fuses 5 and 14. Fuse 14 also is involved with the HVAX control unit, so it might be a 'common cause' for both the blower and the radio to fail.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
I have an automatic temp control. And all speeds quit at once. I Will check the fuses after work tomorrow and let you know what I find. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Clay,
The ATC unit has a blower 'module' instead of a resistor block but it is located in the same position on the side of the HVAC housing. You will see it hy dropping down the glove box (gently squeeze on the upper sides of the box so it clear the tabs and allows it to drop down out of the way). You will see a rectangular device with a couple of plugs that is held in place by 2 screws. Remove the plugs and screws and the module pulls out for replacement. If you have 12v on both sides of fuse #10 when you ask for blower to run, and it still won't run, then the module is likely dead (but also check for the presence of 12v on pin 4 (dark blue wire) at the plug also, just to be sure that the power is getting to the module from the fuse).
Check the other fuses I listed just in case, and I hope the radio will come back on. There is a 'soft' reset you could try if not, which is to remove both clamps from the battery, touch them together for 30 seconds, then reconnect. I am not sure what that does, but give it try. Unfortunately that will require resetting the clock, etc.
