Chrysler Repair: Rear Wiper stuck on: 98 minivan, wiper switches, chrysler town

Question
1998 Chrysler Town & Country. The rear wiper didn't work. Found a brown/green wire that had been cut and taped. Reconnected the wire. Wiper works continuously whenever the key is on, and regardless of the position of either continuous or int wiper switches. Any clues to the problem?

Answer
Hi Ricky,
The control of the rear wiper is mediated by the body computer which senses the position of the wiper switches based upon what the circuits of the HVAC control unit tell it via a single wire that is encoded. My suspicion is though that the self-parking function inside the wiper motor itself is the issue. If you want to verify this diagnosis you can get a readout of the memory of the bcm, possibly by using the ignition switch (on-off-on-off-on and leave on, doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time, then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading changes to show a four digit number preceded by a P, then let me know what it is), and that may corroborate me or suggest another explanation. You can remove the motor by removing the wiper arm, then remove the trim panel from the liftgate*, disconnect the wire plug to the motor and remove the screws that hold it to the panel. You may be able to open the motor to notice a set of breaker points that are responsible for the parking function and you may find that those points are sticking together and which if you separate them and polish their surfaces with a file may solve the malfunction.
