Chrysler Repair: dodge 2.7 tensioner, private option, chain tensioner

Question
QUESTION: i hawe reset the tensioner on a 2001 2.7 for the timing bot it will not release can you help

ANSWER: Hi Stenen,
Do you have full copy of the timing chain tensioner resetting and arming procedure from the Chrysler shop manual? If not, then let me send you a couple of pages as an attachment to an email to you.
To do that you need to send a follow-up question, using the 'private' option, and simply list your email address in the text. While Allexperts knows your email, I am not shown it.

QUESTION: have a chilton manual    not chrysler

ANSWER: I am not familiar with the Chilton, but does it show how to remove the oil from the tensioner and then after it is installed how to release it? There is a special tool to remove the oil and to reset it (Miller 8186) Then after you install it you pry the tension arm slightly toward the tensioner to release it. The manual show how to do this.
Again, I will send you the Chryslet manual pages by email if you want to compare the Chilton with Chrysler. Use the 'private' option to tell me your email address.

QUESTION: followed instrustions with tool may be jambed  have tried tool again w no luck

Answer
I don't know of anything other than what is shown in the Chrysler manual. The manual says:
"Ensure the tensioner is properly reset, The tensioner body must bottom against the top edge of special tool 8186. Failure to properly perform resetting procedure may cause tensioner jamming."

Have you tried to pry on the edge of the tesioner arm, moving it toward the tensioner to cause it to release (arm)?

Other than those items, I don't know why it won't release unless oil wasn't released initially.
That is all I can see in the manual on this problem.

If it was fully pressed in as described it should then release. However it may not be as tight as it will be once the engine is started because it also says it will make noise for 5-10 seconds of running time the first time you start it.

Are you sure you don't want these pages?

PS:Did you see this reader comment?

they will get jammed. use the tool or nail grinded down to 1/16 of an inch placed on the big end of tensioner then pushed fully closed...will not release if not fully reset(pushed in)it has 2 stops  first stop is not all the way in. use tool or short nail push tensioner down on table with nail in bottom(big side) after it resets fully push it together in your hand and it will release if working correctly then reset  to the second stop again mount chain set timing tighten cam sprockets and release tensioner last with crowbar at passenger side cam sprocket...be sure to turn over the crank pulley bolt without pulley on to about 12 revolutions of crank to tighten up slack and pressurize the tensioner to full tightness.  chain will be loose and jump time if you do turn the crank bolt with torque bar by hand....hope this helps...ron
