Chrysler Repair: Rear door latch in closed position but door is open, door latch, rear hatch

My 2008 Chrysler T&C Van rear hatch will not close/shut. It appears that the lock mechanism is in the "locked position", so when I close the trunk, it can not latch/lock over the post. The trunk can easily open. I have tried to pry the latch open but have had no luck moving it.

Hi Forrest,
I don't have any experience with the latch but I can share a couple of pages from the '06 manual which show how to remove the latch if you want to examine it more closely.
