Chrysler Repair: 2003 chrysler town & country a/c clutch, postal mail, refrigerant issue

Question
im about to replace the clutch on the a/c compressor & am very unfamiliar with the entire a/c system. my question is can this be done leaving the compressor in place or do i need to remove the compessor from the vehicle in order to do this? in either case, will the system need to be evacuated as well?

Answer
Hi Kevin,
The '02 and '04 manuals are moot on the question of the clutch removal and replacement except to say it is available for replacement.
The '98 manual, on the other hand, shows how to do it and apparently without removing the compressor from the engine. I would believe that would be worth a try. However it is about 3 pages long but with details that you would want, so that I would recommend I xerox copy and postal mail the pages to you. The refrigerant issue would not be raised if you can remove the clutch without disturbing the compressor from its mounting.
So let me know a postal mailing address if you want those pages. Use a 'private' option follow-up question to let me know.
