Chrysler Repair: lights, jeep grand cheroke, door latch

Question
why does the light on top of the roof stays on all the time even dough when the doors are closed. for a 2000 jeep grand cheroke laredo

Answer
Hi Raul,
Another question just like yours came in yesterday. Here is my answer:
There are three possibilities-
first is that one of the door "open" switches is misadjusted or the door latch on one of the doors has loosened in the closed door position such that the door no longer pushes that switch in far enough to shut off the circuit to the dome light. So when the dome is 'on' when you have the car in its normal driving condition, try getting out of the car and pushing in on all four doors to see if one of them causes the dome light to go out. If you find one that does, then readjust the latch so it secures the door more securely.
Second is that the switch for the headlamps is in the "dome lamp 'on' position" which you can also choose to turn 'off', but you are not aware of that. I don't have familiarity with all the ways that the headlamp switch can be rotated, but try rotating the knob when the headlamps are on to see if you can kill the dome light at one or the other end of the rotation limit of the knob.
Finally, there could be a manual switch right at the dome light itself that, if present, has accidentally been turned from the automatic on position to the manual on position. I don't know if Jeep has that sort of dome lamp switch or not but take a look at the bezel of the lamp to see if there is a small knob there that might be for a switch.
