Chrysler Repair: 05 Town and Country power door lock problem, chrysler town and country, door locks

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland,
Ah, electrical problems...you gotta love them!

I have a recurring problem with the power door lock circuitry on my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country 3.8L Limited.  The problem is: the PDL's stop working.  I have found that a fix for this is to remove the battery to gain access to the bottom of the power control box.  I remove the plug which contains the wire relating to the PDL's, re-install it and then the PDL's will work for a few days, only to later quit again.  The plug and it's pins look great, no corrosion or dirt.  I have even put a small amount of conductive gel on the pins but to no avail.  I have swapped out the "fuse" for this circuit with no difference.

Do you have an idea of what I should try next?  Could the power control box/module that the fuses and plugs connect be bad?

Please let me know.

Thanks for your help,
Tony

ANSWER: Hi Tony,
This problem with the '05 door locks/security system is widely shared. There is a long string of reader feedback comments to an earlier question about the problem which I will try to locate, or you can 'search' the topic and no doubt find it. Most appear to deal with it by removing the IOD fuse for a few minutes. I don't recall anyone who has fixed it permanently, but I will look into that myself.
So I believe that you might in the meantime find some success by removing the fuse.
Let me get back shortly with further advice.
Roland

QUESTION: Sorry to be thick about it, but what does the acronym IOD stand for?  Is that the specific name of the fuse for this circuit?

Answer
Hi Tony,
It stands for Ignition Off Draw, which is needed by all the memories in the modules that have to be active when the van is not in use, plus some of the lighting. Fuse 14 (20 amp) is the IOD in the '05 minvan.
Roland
PS Fuse #19 is specifically assigned to operating the door lock system and it too is powered when the ignition is off, so you might try checking to see if it has a flaky connection or a crack in its internal wire.
PPS Thanks for the nomination...if you are enthusiastic you can 'do it again'.
