Chrysler Repair: 98 cirrus transmission cooler, solenoid pack, body bolts

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland
I ordered the solenoid pack today. Since I will have the lines removed for access, do you recommend adding an additional cooler for these vehicles?

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
I have no knowledge about that cooling capacity needs to be improved. If you have any basis for thinking that the transmission might be overheating then it would be relevant. But so far no on I can recall has had the problem.

QUESTION: Hello Roland
I replaced the solenoid pack and input sensor today and, as we both suspected, this did not change the condition of the transmission - no gears with relay in place and second gear only with relay removed.
Per your suggestion I will drop the pan next and replace the valve body if there is no obvious sign of internal damage to the transmission. The fluid has been clean on the stick every time I have checked it so I am expecting to replace the valve body (can you suggest a source?). Could you provide me with some guidance on r&r of the body as this will be a first for me.
It looks on the Sonnax Rebuild pdf I sstumbled upon that the UD/OD and L/R pistons will be accessible. Would these come with the valve body or do they need to be purchased separately? Maybe if I'm lucky it's just that the valve body bolts are loose.

Answer
Hi Mike,
Sorry to learn that the solenoid pack was not curative. My thought is to remove the pan and check for debris, then the filter similarly. If it looks clean then remove the valve body and inspect it for problems and instead of replacing it entirely get the specific parts you need.
I have about 14 pages from an '04 Sebring 41TE manual on CD that I can copy and email you that will show the entire process if that is more than the Sonnax pdf that you already have. I don't see a reference to the pistons you mentioned, might they be apart of the solenoid pack?
In any case, send me a follow-up using the 'private' option in which you tell me your email address so I can copy and send you those pages, if you would like to have them. I would think the '04 trans is identical to your '99.
