Motorcycle Repair: Oil Capacity, dip stick, oil capacity

Question
I aquired a Yamaha 250cc Exciter with no manual.
I need to change the oil, but do not know what the capacity of the crancase.  There is no dip- stick, only a little window that shows where the oil is.  How much oil is needed to fill it to the proper level?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi George,

You may be able to view the Owner's Manual at Yamaha's website. I would have checked for you, but there was no model year with the question.

www.yamaha-motor.com

You'll have to navigate the site's menus to find the area with manuals. It's under "Parts & Service" menu. Let me know if you cannot find it.

Generally, fill oil until the oil level in view window is between the marks on or near the window. Motorcycle should be positioned level on level ground. You should see a small bubble or space between the oil and the top of the window when oil is at or near capacity.
