Chrysler Repair: Blend door: 02 Sebring Coupe, postal mail, zone system

Question
I own a 2002 Sebring Coupe and I think I am having problems with the blend door? My wife complained that the heat was not working and I had it checked out. The thermostat is fine and and everything is flowing fine. The vents by the passenger are blowing heat just fine. But the two vents near the steering wheel are blowing cool air. The mechanic said it maybe a blend door problem. I have searched for instruction where it is located so I may take a look at it but have not found any diagrams of where it is located.
Have any ideas?
Thanks,
Hank

Answer
Hi Hank,
You mention "coupe". Is this the 2-door Sebring/Avenger body of Japanese Mitsubishi origin, or the Sebring Sedan/Convert body of U.S. origin? The latter has a blend and a mode door with actuators, but the former is apparently with doors that are all cable controlled. Let me know and I'll see what I can suggest. The problem you describe seems strange because in the U.S. Chrysler systems the air flow temp is set first by the mode door, and then the resulting temp air is distributed by the mode door. How it could be cold in one area and hot in another, unless it has a dual zone system as in the minivans, is not clear to me. If it is the Mitsubishi body then there are some possible cable adjustments. I can xerox copy the pages from the manual and postal mail those to you. Just send a 'private' followup telling me a postal mailing address.
