Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: leaking compressor, reputable facility, mechanical expertise

Question
i have a 1990 nissan p/u the compressor is leaking where the two halves come together. is there an o'ring there that can be changed.

Answer
I believe there is. However, replacing it requires discharging the A/C system of freon, Disassembly of the compressor of which usually requires SPECIAL TOOLS, removal of the compressor refrigerant oil and make note of how much you drain out of the compressor so upon reassembly of the compressor you put in EXACT the same amount of refrigerant oil + 1 ounce.

Reassemble and mount the compressor, Reattach all the hoses and electrical plugs and belt and using an A/C vacuum pump to evactuate the air from the A/C system, Install the correct amount of refrigerant and check for leaks.

This is NOT a job for a novice, As I have no idea of your mechanical expertise as to A/C repair, I STRONGLY suggest that you have a reputable facility do this delicate type of repair.

If you add to much or to less refrigerant you can destroy the compressor. Adding to much or to less refrigerant you can also destroy the compressor and or one or more of the A/C systems components.

NOTE: NEVER, EVER reuse refrigerant oil. ALWAYS install new fresh oil.

Let me know.
