Chrysler Repair: 91 Le Baron Conv. Heating/AC, headlamp switch, ac system

Question
Hello. I am experiencing an intermittant complete shutdown of my heating/ac system, can be caused by hitting bumps in road. Very random, currently completely inop. I haven't hit the right bump to turn it back on lately. I suspect a loose connection or fuse but don't know where to start. Heating/ac is either completely working or completely inop. No in between....   John

Answer
Hi John,
By completely shutdown do you mean that the blower won't run, or that the lights on the unit go out, or both? The blower is powered by fuse #1 (30 amp) under the dash. The lights are powered out of the headlamp switch on a different circuit. The air distribution is vacuum operated via a thin line that branches off from the power brake hose in the engine compartment and goes through the fire wall to the control panel. Also the ground wire for the panel attaches to a bolt behind the right trim (kick) panel (by the passenger's right leg) which could be loose. And of course the plug on the back of the control panel could be loose. Does the AC switch activate the compressor? Those are the possibilities.
