Chrysler Repair: Intermittent high beams: 91 C-body sedan, amp fuse, dodge dynasty

Question
QUESTION: Roland I am having a problem with my head lights on my 1991 Dodge Dynasty when I put them on high beam after doing so and after a few minutes my headlights start to go off and on and continue to do this until I go back to low with the switch I replaced the combination switch but still have the problem is there anything else I can check
thanks

ANSWER: Hi Billy,
I assume that you have the conventional headlight set up, i.e., with no 'concealed' doors that cover/uncover them as in the Chrysler cars of the same body style.
The circuit is from the battery, to a 50 amp fuse "C" in the box under the hood that is labelled for ' vehicle lamps', then through the headlamp switch, to the combination switch, and to the bulbs.
One possibility for going on and off, beside the combination switch, is that the circuit breaker which is part of the headlamp switch is opening/closing on its own accord. You might hear it do so if you listened near the headlamp switch when the brights show intermittent bevavior. That being the case would require a new/used headlamp switch, unless for some reason the high headlamp circuit is overdrawing the circuit breaker due to a bulb that is drawing too much current or a short of some sort in the wiring to the bulbs, then it cools down and closes again, etc.
The only other possibility to check is whether the 50 amp fuse in the box has a subtle crack which is opening up when it is drawing current, then it cools and the circuit closes again.
So basically you have a circuit breaker or a fuse that is spontaneously opening and closing. A voltmeter/glow light could be used to observe for voltage at the fuse and if that is ok then at the headlamp switch (pin H) when the intermittency is present.

QUESTION: Roland I replaced the headlight switch 2 months ago thinking it was the problem I will check the wires and fuse, bulb

Answer
OK, that sounds good. Put a voltmeter on the fuse output side and see if that is the problem point, or at the output of the headlamp switch if that fuse is not it. It would have to be that or a loose wire from the combo switch to a connector up front where the current to the high beam filatments splits that is flakey.
