Chrysler Repair: chrysler 300m heater, air ports, bottom of the floor

Question
QUESTION: heat stop blowing out at the bottom of the floor

ANSWER: What is the year? Do you have the automatice temp control or manual temp control type? Does heat come out of other air ports? or is there no heat at all?

The year of the car is a 2000. The heater can be set for auto or manual control. It's only blowing from the top. Sometimes the heat may be set to as high as 85 degrees and it blows only luke warm air. Sometimes it may be set as low as 65 degrees and it may blow hot air.

Two things to do: a calibration and a self-diagnostic test. I assume that you have the digital temp readout called an Automatic Temp Control unit.
First: start the engine, turn on the control unit, while not moving the car run it with the temp set for full coldest temp for two minutes. Then change the temp for full hot temp for 5 minutes.
Then see if that has had any impact on your problem.
If not, then set the temp to 75<sno F setting with the engine running and the car sitting still.
Simultaneously press the floor, mix, and defrost buttons (lower 4th button/upper 5th button/upper 6th button) and the diplay should start to blink. It will go through some self-tests and when done it will either read a two-digit number or it will return to the normal teme reading followed by F. Let me know it you get the trouble code number and we'll go from there.
The oil cooler, nor the radiator, have anything to do with the problem. It may be that there coolant flow through the heater core is impeded and you could check that by locating the two hoses that flow between the engine and the cabin through the firewall (behind the engine) and feeling them to see if they are about equally hot. If not let me know that too.

QUESTION: Did the test and the code is 36.  Both hoses are equally hot.

Answer
Hi Alonzo,
That code means a ' ATC control communication failure' which I presume to mean an issue between that control panel and the body control module (bcm). I find no specific troubleshoot for this code and so I would suggest that you check the fuses that might be involved with ATC itself (fuse 17) and with the body control (fuse 7,14,16,18,19) all located in the box behind the left endcap of the dash. There are all sorts of control wiring between the bcm and the actuators/sensors in the HVAC system but most of those have specific fault codes with other unique numbers.
The only wire having to do with general communication between the body control and the ATC control is a yellow/violet wire from pin 4 of the number 1 plug of the bcm and pin 2 at the ATC unit plug. So you could check that wire for continuity, and maybe even check that the solder joint of the socket's pin at the interior circuit board of the ATC is bright and shiny (reheat it with a soldering pencil to be sure). The same thing might be done at the bcm but opening that up may be more of an issue than you wish to deal with.
About the only other possibilitiy if the fuses and the wire appear to be good is to try replacing the ATC control panel itself with a used one from a wreck.
Please let me know if you find something out.
