Chrysler Repair: Codes on dash? E 999, chrysler models, chec

What does it mean when car urned on and code reads "Code E 999", then says Chec 1, Chec 2; trip goes crazy 0000000; Chec 3, then code E 999?  All goes away when putting car in gear...

What is the year, make, model?
It appears that the cluster is spontaneously doing a self-test (which normally you must initiate for it to go through the process) for any problems and finding none issues the code "E999". That is they way it works on the minivans for the late '90's and perhaps other Chrysler models. So I would not be concerned about it.
