Chrysler Repair: 01 Caravan 3.3 flex fuel: run rough/code 0122, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
My 2001 Dodge Sports Caravan with 3.3 flex fuel have not been ran for 2 years.  It ran rough and the exhaust was smelling very rich and had code p0122,  I already replaced the TPS, spark plugs and air filter and did not fixed the problem.  Could you please help and advice me on what seems to be the problem.  thanks.

Answer
Hi Raul,
The 0122 code may not mean the tps is bad, but rather that the wiring has a problem. I would check that the pink/yellow wire on pin 3 at the plug shows 5V. Then I would measure between pins 1 and 2 to see if the voltage shows less than 1V with the throttle closed and that it rises to 4 or more with the throttle open. Finally I would re-measure that same variation at the pcm between pins 35 and 43 which are on separate plugs (wire colors are brown/orange and dark blue/dark green). It could be an 'open' in the pin 35 wire or a short to ground of that wire. Let me know what you find.
Other than that, with no codes other than 0122 I would check to be sure the stem of the exhaust gas recirculation valve is not stuck ajar and you will find a slot on the stem of the valve into which you can insert the tip of a screwdriver and use that to move the stem back and forth. Spring-action should move the stem to a dead stop position if not, then spray some WD-40 on the stem where it enter the valve body.
