Chrysler Repair: Security alarm system: how to set? 02 Neon, security alarm system, chrysler neon

Question
How do I operate the security alarm on a factory alarm of a 2002 chrysler neon.  It is a standard (not automatic) & I seem to set the alarm off every time I try to put the security on.  I must be doing something wrong.  Can you help?  Thanks...just give me steps to setting this thing.

Answer
Hi Laura,
The alarm is really set up almost automatically. As you exit the vehicle you can either
use the power door lock (if equipped) to lock all the doors, then shut the door as you exit or
get out of the car, shut the doors and use the remote keyless entry to lock the doors or
use the key to lock the driver door after you have exited.
Any of those action will start the security light on the instrument cluster blinking of 16 seconds, and then if nothing is problematic it will blink more slowly which is a sign that the system is 'set'.
Tell me what you are doing and maybe I can figure out what it is that is setting it off.
If you want to avoid using the alarm entirely then don't do any of the above three actions. Instead just use the mechanical door lock button on the inside of each door to secure the door. Then exit the car and close the door just like we did before these alarms were developed.
