Chrysler Repair: Town and Country 01 - Overhead lights not working, rear tailgate, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: Hi Rowland,

All of the overhead lights (map/reading/courtesy lights - the front driver and passenger and the 4 rear passenger locations) as well as the visor lights no longer go on.  The lower interior lights (front doors and rear tailgate) work fine and dim upon locking, etc.

All other lights and displays work as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
John

ANSWER: Hi John,
The interior lights and many other body electical functions are controlled by the body control module. It has four fuses but the wiring diagrams don't show exactly which one is powering those specific interior circuits. I suspect either 19 or 20, but possibly 14 or 24 is blown. So take a close look at all 4 fuses to see which one is blown. The box is under the hood.

QUESTION: Thanks for the response.

Are the fuses you refer to in the fuse box or somewhere else?

Also, the fuses in the fuse box are not numbered.

Thanks,
John

ANSWER: Hi John,
I wonder if the underside of the lid of the box might not show you the layout with all the fuses numbered? 19 is the second fuse just behind the autoshut down relay which is the front most relay just to the inboard side of the middle of the box. 20 is the fourth one behind 19. 14 is the front most one on the outboard edge of the box, 24 is the one behind the starter motor relay which is the front relay on the  inboard side of the box. There is only one fuse/relay box and your picture shows it.

QUESTION: Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand.  I attached a picture of the fuse box cover.

Is:
14  15A IOD
19  25A ASD
20  15A FT/RR WSHR
24  20A HZD LP

Thanks again ! ! !

Answer
I show something different for the ASD relay (should be fuse 16 according to my '02 manual) and it shows fuse 20 to be 40 amp. But the fuse 14 in any case, because it is labelled IOD, is the one that would power the interior lights because IOD (ignition off draw) is exactly the kind of things (interior lights) that have to be powered when the key is in the off position. So take a look at #14 for either being blown or maybe having a subtle crack in its internal wire.
