Answer
Hi James,
There is a good chance that either the crank position or the cam position sensor has failed. Rather than replace both if you can borrow an OBD-II code reader and plug it in to the socket under the dash by the steering column you can determine which or what other might be the cause. If either sensor fails, there will cause no spark signal being sent to the coil. The crank failure code #0320, and cam failure code #0340. But it could be something else so a readout is the best direct way to find out what is the cause. The other clue to a sensor failure would be that the fuel pump, which always runs for a second or so when you turn it "run" on the ignition switch, will not run when you are cranking over the starter. The problem is can you hear it running, if it is, while someone else uses the key and you listen at the tank. And even then, you won't know which sensor to change.
