Chrysler Repair: chrysler voyager gearbox slow to pick up, chrysler grand voyager, 4 digit numbers

Question
hi, i have a chrysler grand voyager 3.3 automatic (2000). when i start the car in the morning it takes quite a few seconds to find 1st gear.  when it does select 1st and i start to move off it would then slip out of gear, presumably into neutral.  this can continue like this for 5mins or more, finding 1st then moving a few yards then slipping out of gear.  once it starts working fine there will be no more problems for the rest of the day.

Answer
Try the ignition switch:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the km reading changes to show any 4 digit numbers which would be fault codes that may tell us something. There is also a plug under the dash next to the steering column where you can attach a code reader and see if any transmission codes are stored in the memory. Let me know and we'll go from there.
Have you checked the fluid level in the trans? If you need some add only ATF +4 type. Is the engine idle speed quite low? That might be the cause, or the filter might be clogging up which would make the trans fluid pressure low. Those are some possible causes.
