Chrysler Repair: 99 Dodge intrepid dies on hard stops or in slow traffic 2.7 base model, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
After getting a tune-up,injectors cleaned and a oil change we noticed it takes a  bit longer to start the car. Also when coasting at a low speed the car will die and the "Oil light" comes on after the car dies.Restart the car, runs fine.I'm afraid that this could happen if we have to stop suddenly and the car dies we will get rear ended. The dealer said they can not find any fault codes. "Please Help"

Answer
Hi Jim,
In the abasence of codes and the symptoms that you describe, my first suggestion would be that the exhaust gas recirculation valve is sticking slightly ajar rather than closing tightly when you slow down. That also would make it a bit more difficult to start from cold were it the case. It is fairly easy to remove the egr with its manifold intake tubes so that you can clean out the passages inside and check/lubricate the valve stem for ease of movement. If you want to do it yourself I can copy a few pages from a CD and email those to you. I need to know your email address to do that, so use a 'private' follow-up to tell me what it is.
Another possibility is that the throttle body throat, valve plate (both sides) and idle air side passageway are coated with dirt/grease. Removing the air intake manifold would give you access to clean those with solvent.
These maintenance items would affect the fuel/air ratio and cause this sort of problem.
