Chrysler Repair: car wont start: 01 LHS, oil dipstick, coolant leak

Question
QUESTION: I was driving home and came to a stop in front of my house and my car died on me. I tried to start it up but it wouldn't turn over. I got out and coolant was coming out all over the ground. the next day I checked the oil dipstick and drained the oil to see if it had water in it and it didn't. I then went to auto zone and got a kit to check for leaks. (it was a pressure gauge that hooks to your overfill and presses it up to check for leaks) it held 15-16lbs with no leaks. i was told it might be a cam and ignition sensor, but if so why did the coolant come out? please help.did not over heat

ANSWER: What is the year/make/model/body style/engine?

QUESTION: 2001 chysler lhs 3.5: reply to car won't start sorry

ANSWER: Hi William,
On the not start, try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading changes to show a 4-digit number preceded by a P. Let me know and we'll go from there using the 'trouble code' as a basis.
On the coolant leak, I would need to know where the leak appeared to be coming from to give any suggestions.

QUESTION: the code is a P1684. the coolant seem to be coming from the water pump maybe. right anove the oil pan.

Answer
Hi William,
If the water is coming from the front middle of the engine, where the the water pump is located, then I believe that the water pump is bad. To replace that you also have to remove the timing belt, so depending upon how many miles the engine has on it since new (or since the belt was replaced) it is prudent to consider replacing the belt when you have it all apart should be belt have near 100,000 miles on it.
The 1684 code just says that the battery was disconnected sometime in the past 50-100 key on-off cycles. So it doesn't tell us anything about why the engine won't start. If the timing belt slipped when the water pump failed that could be the reason.
So consider whether you want to do the repair yourself or find a reliable mechanic. It is a fairly detailed job so you would want whoever does it to have the shop manual. I can copy the pages off of a CD and email them to you if you will give me an email address (the website knows it but not the 'experts').
