Chrysler Repair: 1991 dodge spirit dome light, dodge spirit, yellow wires

Question
The dome light will not shut off. It drains our new battery completely even with the fuse removed. We have checked all doors, and the trunk to make sure they are properly closed, we have checked the headlight knob to make sure it's fully off.

Answer
Hi Fiona,
Which fuse are you removing? The fuse that supplies all the courtesy lamps is #2 (10 amp) which if you remove should turn off all those lamps. Let me know if removing that fuse doesn't turn off the dome lamp, etc.
As you know there are a lot of places where the system can be turned on: all the door jambs, the headlamp switch, etc. You will have to go to each of those switches to find a yellow wire which is shorted to ground, or a switch that is shorted to ground even though it is apparently pushed in all the way. Either one of the switches needs to be adjusted/replaced or there is some location along any one of the yellow wires that is touching body metal due to an opening in the insulation of the wire. In the meantime, remove fuse #2 and let me know if you are still having the battery drain in which case some further sleuthing will be necessary. Do you have a volt-ohm-milliamp meter to use if necessary?
