Chrysler Repair: 95 New Yorker Heater Motor, ac evaporator coils, postal mail

Question
QUESTION: I have a 95 New Yorker and the blower motor sends hot air out
of the dash intermittently. I checked the Climate Control DTCs
and this is what I got: 31: Recirculation door actuator
stalled (stuck door or bad servo).... I know what the problem
is, now I need to know how to fix it.

ANSWER: Hi Gabe,
The manual shows what the actuator looks like but not where it sits on the housing, and troubling to me as that removing it is only discussed in the context of having the unit being removed from under the dash. I can xerox a copy of the page that shows it if that would be of help, and postal mail that to you. I need a postal address.
I don't believe the recirc door alone would cause hot air out the dash intermittently as it really only effects the temp marginally (fresh air intake vs recirc air mainly, and in either case the air would go throught the ac evaporator coils. Those coils would have to be non-cold to produce warm air output. Perhaps you are low on refrigerant. Do you mean the blower is intermittent, or that cold air is intermittent?

QUESTION: There is no AC, my guess is no refrigerant.BUT, before I can
get freon into the car, I need to fix this problem.  The hot
air from the defrost ports is intermittent.  The hot air
will blow SOMETIMES, whether or not the heater control unit
is on or not.  I even pulled the fuse for the heater fan,
and the problem was there.  I tried replacing just the
climate control face plate, and it was the same. I checked
the fusible link off of the positive battery cable and there
was power there....I am lost after that.  I am good with a
wrench, so I can fix what is wrong once I figure out exactly
what it is!!

ANSWER: Hi Gabe,
As I see it, you could be experiencing the abnormal opening/closing of the recirculation door. Depending upon whether it is hotter or cooler in the car than outside you would notice the difference in the air that comes out of the system, whether the blower was on or not if it carried outdoor air in (and the intake duct had been heated by the sun or the engine from a previous trip) that air would feel warm until it equilibrated.

QUESTION: I have a Hayne's manual and it doesn't say anything about
about a recirc door actuator anywhere.  Where is it? Do I need
to replace the 14 speed blower-power module?

Answer
Hi Gabe,
As I explained none of the figures in the manual show the actual location of the actuator but because it involves the issue of which air is drawn into the unit it is probably at the right hand end where the blower is located. Because it isn't shown I suspect it may be on the top or the back side, thus no discussion about dealing with it except in the contect of total removal.
The blower module most commonly fails by only blowing at high speed with the loss of other speed choices. If that is your situation then yes it needs to be replaced (or if you are handy with electronics trouble-shooting then try that).
