Chrysler Repair: 99 Chrysler Sebring LXI LIMP MODE, chrysler sebring lxi, 4 digit numbers

Question
Hi Roland,

I have 99 Chrysler sebring lxi 2.5 v6 it has 93,000 miles I baby the car it is serviced stored in garage.  It has intermittent transmission limp mode problem.  It has service engine light on one code was for egr valve & other transmission. I notice that the service engine light brink off temporarily then come back on recently.  The problem with the transmission limp mode is Electrical after taking car to diagnose & to transmission shop.

>>When the transmission go into limp mode I noticed if I unplug 2 of those trasmission relay switches (near front firewall drivers side fender) & snap em right back in the transmission TEMPORARILY works fine then problem reappears if I drive it day later park it at shopping mall then go to drive home goes back to limp mode.

Why does taking out the switch & snapping back in fix problem temporarily.  Fluid is red & dipstick is full not overfilled.  What is your opinion of what could be wrong.  please let me know what you think.

Answer
Hi Michael,
I believe there is only one transmission relay, not two. It is the driver side one the three relays at that location. The limp mode is set in motion by the trans controller disconnecting the relay, and it will take a few recurrences of the errors for it to be put back into limp once again.
The best way to go forward is to get the transmission fault code which is stored in the memory of the controller by means of a fault code readout. You can get one for free at most Autozone parts stores. Let me know the specific 4-digit numbers that come out and we'll go from there to see what are the possibiilties.
