Chrysler Repair: 01 town and country speedometer, fuel pump relay, clock spring

Question
QUESTION: is the speedometer on the 2001 town and country tied into a relay? Mine is not working and I want to fix it...thanks

ANSWER: Hi Greg,
It is powered by the output speed sensor on the transmission so that would be the first suspect. However, the transmission would shift abnormally were that sensor at fault. If the trans is not shifting relaibly then I would suspect the sensor. If you want to check it out go to an Autozone parts store where they will usually do a free readout. Get any fault code numbers and let me know what they are.
A bad/disconnected sensor causes an 0720 code.

QUESTION: Thanks for the speedy answer. I am getting codes: 0500, 1282, 1684, and 1495. I replaced the evap purge solenoid in response to the 1495, but that didn't help. I am thinking about the gas cap next.

It's been a weird week. The speedometer stopped working, the ingition switch fuse blew several times, the automatic power locks stopped working, and the cruise control stopped working on top of these error codes...please don't tell me my computer is bad!

Answer
Hi Greg,
The 0500 is also the output speed sensor on the trans not putting out a signal so check its plug and harness and if those are ok then replace the sensor to get back your speedometer.
1282 says there is a problem with the fuel pump relay control circuit but that could be due to the ignition fuse going out if you haven't had a stalling problem or you don't hear the pump run.
1684 just says the battery was disconnected recently, ignore that.
1495 says leak detection pump solenoid circuit is open or shorted, so you may have fixed the wrong item. That control wire for the circuit is from pin 2 at the pump to pin 77 of the powertrain controller.
Fuses 11, 14, 19, 20, 28 are worth checking for restoring the power door locks.
The cruise control might have dropped out due to a disconnect in the clock spring connector of the steering wheel.
