Question
i have a proton compact 1.5 glsi with a mitsubishi colt engine the problem started about a week ago i was driving around 30mph mark when i got a slight engine hesistation and over a space of a few minutes it became severe aslo when i pull up at a junction or traffic lights it starts to buck as i pull off and again getting worse after that point the problem goes away after i have turned the engine off and on again and i am using a lot of fuel i have had an emmisions test and my lambda sensor is perfect i thought at first the problem was my fuel filter as the problem started after i ran low but talking to a friend they suggested it maybe my auto choke sticking open (not sure if i have 1 tho) please help i go on holiday on friday and need this problem sorting

Answer
Katie: You need to get your car in a shop someplace, as your problem could be your fuel pump. I have been replacing a lot of pumps of late with this high cost of fuel. You know don't you that the fuel is what keeps the pump cool. So if you run the car down to empty a lot of time, with time you will cook the fuel pump. A shop could test the fuel pump to see if it is putting out enough fuel to keep your car running. Just because you can hear the pump start does not always mean it is putting out enough fuel. Another thing, when is the last time you do did a good tune up on your car. Sometimes those tune ups do wonders. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
