Chrysler Repair: 97 lhs tries to start itself, continuity tester, relay switch

Question
I have a 97 lhs that tries to start with no keys in the ignition and then the wire from the solenoid into the starter burns out. There is no remote starter on the car that I can find.

Answer
Hi Mitchel,
I would begin at the starter motor relay in the power box under the hood. I have a '94 and a '98 manual so I have to assume that the box is square in shape with the starter motor relay in the front row of 4 relays (might be labelled #8 but in any case would be the next to the outside-most relay in that front row, if otherwise please let me know). Either that relay is flaky and closing its switch contact by itself, or the ignition switch is flaky and is activating the relay by itself.
I would remove the relay and measure for voltage on the out-side most socket and if you find 12V on that pin that would implicate the ignition switch as the cause. If that is not present, then I would measure between the front and rear pins of the relay itself using an ohmmeter/continuity tester and if you find that to be 0 ohms/continuos that would indicate that the relay switch is stuck in the closed position.
Let me know what you find and we can go from there.
Roland
PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' where it had been referred by Kevin.
