Chrysler Repair: 95 Chrysler Cirrus 2,5 LXi: replacing dead PCM, fuel consuption, chrysler cirrus

Question
Hello Roland!

I got a dead PCM on my car, (PCM p/n 04606066). I am wondering if i can swap PCM or both BCM and PCM with others 100% working from Stratus 2000 year (PCM p/n 04606658AA), same engine.
I know that it is surely better to order original part number and such, however..
Question is - will it start&run somehow at all?? Or not? Someone said i will work, but i shall get disabled airbags/ABS and exceed fuel consuption.
What is your opinion Roland, chances of success, does it worth a try?
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Vladik,
That 5 year discrepency between the two pcm's is too big a gap in years (between '95 and '00). For example, you will find out that the 2000 pcm has 2 40-pin plugs instead of one 60-pin plug so that would stop you in your tracks right there. Look for a unit from a '95 or '96 Cirrus or Stratus only, with identical engines and no secutiry key immoibilizers having been involved (the SKIM didn't come into use before '97 so sticking to '95-6 should be safe). I know that the change over to the 2 40-pin plug setup was in place by '98 and your '95 vehicle is looking for a 1 60-pin socket to plug into. It won't work!
