Chrysler Repair: Sebring top wont go up, chrysler sebring convertible, chrysler sebring

Question
97 Chrysler Sebring Convertible, V6
Hi, my top went down normally, now won't go up. Motor runs when switch is in down position and top moves a bit against the stops but motor doesn't run in up position. Up/down relay from near the motor shows contacts clean as new. I suspect it because I have motor power down. Was going to just replace it but all sources I have found so far show it no longer available. Was thinking of testing it. I see from another answer that A and F supply power to the motor and C/B and C/E are the circuits to activate the relays. So D must be the other side of the motor power circuit. But what are the polarities? Can I damage the relays if I get them backwards? Also, is there another way to have down power but not up power other than the failure of this relay? (I understand that there are actually 2 inside) Also, any idea where to find one of these buggers?

It could be the actual switch I suppose. It feels normal.

Thanks a bunch for any help.

Answer
Hi Dan,
B and E are attached to opposite ends of the motor. Both relays are set up to ground both those pins when at rest. Then if you activate the up relay the + voltage is switched to B and the circuit is complete through the E remaining grounded. The reverse is true for the down relay request: + voltage is switched to E and B remains grounded. So I would pull fuse 11 in the box under the hood that powers the top motor so you aren't dealing with the power source, then you can listen for the relays (which are powered by fuse 4 in the dash) and also you can observe whether the B and E are alternatively connected to fuse 11 empty socket or to ground. You would want to remove the motor plug so as to not have its windings in the circuit while you do the measurements. It may be the up relay is not making good contact to the fuse 11 or is not working at all, or the down relay contact may not be grounded when at rest. Either of those would explain why the motor won't run in the up direction.
