Chrysler Repair: air conditionig 2006 ram truck, blower motor resistor, wire colors

Question
The fan started making a roaring sound and then just quit blowing air; it felt like cool air was trying to come out but between the noise and not blowing I turned everything off to hopefully avoid problems. If you could give me any advice that would be awesome.
Thank you,

Answer
Hi Crissi,
I have access to the manual for the vehicle on a CD but it is not that easy to 'flip through the pages' to find what is going on, at least so far.
From what you describe it would sound like the blower motor/fan was mechanically interfering with its housing. The motor/fan is located on the underside of the HVAC housing at the far right end of that structure under the dash. It is round and has wiring which when unplugged and the three screws removed from the edge of the round housing will allow the the fan/motor to be dropped out. There may be an interfering access panel to the right of the unit on what is called the cowl which is located in front of the passenger door opening. So remove such a panel for better access.
The manual for '06 unfortunately is very obscure on details about the circuit. The electrical supply of current to the blower motor is obscure except to say that I know the wire colors and which plug it is attached to however the design of the power supply system for this function appears to not have a fuse associated with it but rather some sort of self-resetting electronics. With a voltmeter in hand you can figure out whether you still have power to the motor (except to try listening to it, briefly). If you do have power, then I would work toward removing the motor/fan unit and inspecting it for why it is rubbing inside the housing.
If you don't have power to it then it may be that another part, the blower motor resistor block, has failed due to the overload situation. That resistor block would be found at the other end of one of the wires at the blower motor. You can remove it from the housing and put in a replacement resistor block. You can test/examine the resistors to see if they are burned out. Those resistora are what causes there to be the several fan blower speeds. If a resistor fails, then the current will not flow through the circuit.
That is about the best I can offer about the truck model with which I have no personal experience.
