Chrysler Repair: rear calipers wont release, cirrus lxi, rubber hoses

Question
Have a 2000 cirrus lxi.  My real calipers will not release.  My husband removed the calipers and lubricated the sliding pins but that did not relieve the situation.  the calipers had to be released with a tool and will not release once the brakes are used again.  Husband thinks bleading the lines will solve the problem.  Will that do it or is ther another problem?

Answer
Hi Joanna,
My experience with that sort of problem is that either the pistons inside the caliper may be corroded or the rubber hoses that connect the calipers to the metal brake lines at the chassis are degraded internally such that there are rubber flakes in the lumen of the hose which prevent the brake fluid from flowing back out of the caliper when you release the pressure on the brake pedal. The hose is rather inexpensive compared to a caliper replacement or rebuild so he could try replacing the hoses, bleed them, and see if that solves the problem.
