Chrysler Repair: 97 cirrus 2.5L: no start, fuel pump relay, wire colors

Question
Hi Roland, I am having a problem with a 97 cirrus. It died, and will not start, although it turns over good. When the key is turned on, i get no check engine light, and get no error codes either. Also, I do not hear the fuel pump run at all. I checked both fuses, and swaped out the fuel pump relay, still not coming on. Checked with meter between pins 1 & 3 on fuel pump plug, reading about 70 ohms, checked continuity of wire all the way back to relay, and also the ground, both good. Then jumpered across the relay contacts, puel pump sounded like it came on, drew a little spark and my jumper got a little warm. I left it on, and tried to start engine, still will not even pop. Seems like fuel pump relay isnt even turning on. Any ideas where I can check from here?  Thanks, Mark

Answer
Hi Mark,
The fuel pump only runs for about a second unless the engine is being cranked and the pcm is getting pulses from the cam and crank sensors. Check whether you get any pulsing out of those sensors by measuring between pins 43 and 33 (cam), and 43 and 32(crank) at the pcm while you turn the engine by hand with the ignition on. It should show pulsing between 5v and 0.5v several times per revolution. If not, then that sensor is bad. The wire colors at the sensors are: black/light blue (43), tan/yellow (33) and gray/black (32).
Disregard the fuel pump for now.
Roland
