Chrysler Repair: ignition key switch 95 lebaron, common sence, postal mail

Question
QUESTION: the keyswitch on my lebaron went, if I turn it to " off" I
can feel the key switch just roll back with the key and I
had to pull the coil wire to shut it down. The coloum seems
to have a star screw in it( bottom center is the only one
visable) but it's a star screw with a little dimple in the
center so none of the star wrenches I have fit. My
question...how do I remove the steering shroud and it there
anything I should know about changing out the keyswitch
other than the common sence stuff?

ANSWER: Hi Ann,
I think those screws are of the 'torx' type and you should be able to get either torx bits or torx screwdrivers to remove them. Look at the tip to be sure it is set up with the dimple in mind and if not then there is another type that includes that feature*. A hardware store will have it. There may be 3 screws so look on the under side. Also unscrew the column tilt lever.
There is about 2 pages of details about changing out the switch which I would prefer to xerox copy and postal mail to you as it would be a task to type it all it. If you will give me a postal mailing address I will copy and send the pages at no cost.

*It might be a 'tamper resistant torx* or something like that. Let me know if you want the pages so I can get those off to you in the mail today.
PS Thanks for the rating and nomination.

QUESTION: Okay.I replaced the keyswitch, still have the same issue. I
can start the car using the key but can't shut it off,
pulled the coil wire, turned the key until it came out,
still have power to all accesories. Now all I replaced was
the lock cyl. itself, should I be looking into the entire
ignition starter switch?( the housing the keylock sits
into?) One thing that seems odd, when I turn the key back
towards " off" I don't feel any " click" type settings, such
as " run" " off" " accessory". There is a small peice of
linkage looking thing that the ignition starter switch
engages, right behind the switch, that runs down the
steering coloum that has nothing but freeplay. It doesn't
seem to engage to anything when I move it by hand and I feel
no resistance moving it it's entire run. What does this
connect to and is it something I should be looking
into?..Thanks ever so much for your help.....

Answer
Hi Ann,
That linkage you questioned has to do with the safety interlock between the ignition switch and the floor shifter which is supposed to make sure that the starter will only connect if the shifter is in P or N.
The issue you are having has to do with the interconnection between the lock cylinder and the ignition switch proper which evidentally is not connected well together between off and on so it stays on all the time. It could be the igntion switch or it could be the housing that holds the cylinder is worn to the point where the cylinder is not being held deeply enough in the housing to make that interconnection solid. However there are some details in making that interconnection that are shown in the pages that I offer to send to you. If you ascertain that the interconnection is good then the ignition switch may be faulty internally and need replacement.
In the meantime see whether you can get the switch to return to the off position by pushing in (toward the ignition switch) on the key/cylinder while you turn it from run to off. Let me know your postal address if you want these pages.
