Chrysler Repair: bcm or pcm?: overhead console/ac panel lights out-- 96 T&C, bcm, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: I had a problem with my 96 T&C that seems to have a problem for many others; My AC, rear wiper and rear defrost lights would flash for about 15 minutes and then work fine, now they don't work at all. My overhead console also went blank after those buttons stopped working.I have been doing some research and saw how some people reset these lights by holding some of these buttons down for 5 second s. That doesn't work for me. A few guys with m ore experience than me say its the "computer". So my question is when they say "computer" do they mean the bcm or pcm?

ANSWER: Hi Anthony,
Rather than think 'computer', how about think 'fuse'? Much cheaper part!
You would do well to check fuse #6 (20 amp) in the junction box that is under the dash on the driver side. That particular fuse powers the overhead, the heater/ac panel, and parts of the body computer. If it is the 'computer' it would be the bcm, but do verify the fuse is good. It could have a slight crack in its wire and not be clearly blown out, so you might want to verify you have 12v on both sides of it when the key is in the 'run' position.

QUESTION: Roland thanks again for your help, I changed the fuse and I still have the problem. Can you tell me where I would find the bcm so I could checked the wires? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Answer
Hi Anthony,
Did you verify that you have 12v on the fuse; it could be the ignition switch or a wire to the fuse?
The bcm is attached physically to the underdash fuse box, so you remove the combo from under the dash and then remove the screws that hold them together and slide them appart if you want to break it down that far. But you can check the wires to the bcm without separating them, and you might even get to the 2 plugs on the bottom of the bcm without removing the unit so you could verify the voltages and connections.
The bcm uses fuses 1,2,3,6 of the fuse box and 19,22,28 of the box under the hood. So I would also suggest checking those out.  Check for voltage at the o'head console on pin 4 brown/pin, and then check that the white/black at the console is connected to pin 34 of the natural color plug at the bcm, and that the black/light green is connected to chassis ground. If all that 'passes' then it would seem that the bcm has gone bad.
