Chrysler Repair: 97 Neon: no turn signals/radio/speedometer, blower, amp fuse, continuity tester

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My 97 neon has no signal lights, radio; speedometer;heat fan;it just all stopped working... Do you have any suggestions on what it may be? we have checked few things but have come to a halt and frustrated...

thanks for your time :)

Linda

ANSWER: Hi Linda,
I have a suggestion that may explain several of these:
There is a fuse #2 (40 Amp) in the power distribution center located behind the battery which supplies power to the heater/ac blower motor and the turn signal/hazard switch (and the air bag control module, ac cycling switch, back-up lamp, and rear window de-fogger). The speedo and radio are powered differently from fuse 13 (10 amp) in the same box, so check that one also.
Let me know what you find, please. The #2  is in the front outboard corner of the box; and 13 is the front fuse, just behind the latch. We may have to do some further analysis.

QUESTION: So the 40 amp fuse seems okay power to group D both sides

No power to fuses 5 Air Bag; 6 signal;7 air conditioner;8 back up lites

Any other suggestions?

Answer
Hi Linda,
If you are speaking of the fuse 2 (I don't understand what you mean by 'group D') as I described its location, then the only reason for not getting power to fuses 5-8 in the fuse box is that the specific section of the ignition switch which handle the output of fuse 2 is not making good connection to the black/orange wire that carries the current to those fuses. The section connects pin 3 of the ignition switch plug to pin 4 when the key is in the 'run' position.
So I would check that out with an ohmmeter or continuity tester and if no connection then try spraying some electronic contact cleaner inside the switch with a straw applicator from a spray can or replace the ignition stitch. If the switch is good then verify that there is 12V on the black/pink wire that comes from fuse 2 of the power box and verify that there is continuity from pin 4 on the black/orange wire to fuse 5 in the fuse box under the dash. One of those possibilities will be the answer to why you have no power on fuses 5-8. Be careful not to short the black/pink wire to ground as that would blow fuse 2 which is 'hot' all the time.
