Chrysler Repair: 95 dodge stratus p1899 p1698, transmission control module, dodge stratus

Question
I've got a 95 dodge stratus 2.4l/auto trans. the car has had a recurring DTC P1899 park/neutral circuit code and recently is Showing a P1698 CCD bus code. From what i've read this P1698 shows that there is no communication from either the Trans Controller or Body module to the PCM. Where do i find the TCM, and does this car even have a Body controller (the car has manual windows and door locks, and does have AC if that matters). Which pins on the TCM and PCM or Data connector should I check for continuity and how common is it for the TCM to fail. When driving on the Highway it sometimes seems like the Trans is dropping into second gear (I'm guessing thats a failsafe mode?) and the Instrument cluster often stops working (the speedometer always works when this happens though). I pulled the Cluster and checked the Blue and red connectors, all the pins seem fine no corrosion, and the circuit board looks ok too. I'm guessing that the cluster, P1698 and p1899 codes are all related somehow. Thanks for your time

Answer
Hi Kevin,
The P1698 code means that no digital data is being received by the powertrain controller from the transmission control module. The manual says to check the ccd bus wires between that module and the rest of the system using the Chrysler diagnostic readout box.  If the continuity between the transmission and the powertrain CCD wires checks to be ok, then according to the manual the trans controller should be replaced.
The trans controller is the box that is inboard of the power distribution box, and the powertrain controller is the box that is outboard of the power distribution box, all of them side by side just behind the radiator.
There is a body control module located on the back side of the junction block (fuses) behind the left end cap of the dash. You have to remove both those modules and then separate them to remove the bcm.
The connections between the pcm/tcm/bcm/data link connector (under dash reader plug) are by a twisted pair of wires;
The so called + wire is on   59/ 43/ 5 or 6/  3  pins and the
   so called - wire         60/ 4/  13 or 14/  11  pins of their plugs
The cluster is driven by the data bus, but wouldn't cause the problem with 1698.
The 1899 has to do with a discrepency between the trans range position sensor and the p/n safety switch sense. There are about 6 pages from the powertrain manual that I can xerox and postal mail to you about that one.
The driving in 2nd gear is indeed the failsafe mode for the trans. It would occur when the 1698 situation is detected.
