Chrysler Repair: 07 T&C - Rear A/C blows hot, self calibration, floor vents

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland. I have an '07 T&C, and the rear a/c blows hot.  The front is okay. I pulled the interior panel off and can see the assembly, I only see two lines going in to what looks like an A/C evaporator, mostly laying flat but on a slight upward angle. The lines are rubber and aluminum, they look like a/c lines, but I supposed I could be looking at a heater core set too.  I only see the one core and line set though. When running, those lines are HOT!  I'm not finding a lot of documentation anywhere, so forgive the bad descriptions please.  Any advice you can offer?  We haul grandkids a lot, and though the front is fine for me, 90-100 degree days haven't made them happy with no a/c for them.  Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Dave,
My latest manual is an '05 on CD but I expect an '06 shortly. Based on what I have, I suspect that you might be helped by doing a self-calibration of the system. But I need to know if you have the standard or automatic temp control type of control panel up front. If that doesn't correct things then the blend door of the rear unit needs to be checked to be sure that its actuator is moving it (or that it is binding) as that is the means for controlling the temp. Acutally the heat only comes out the floor vents and the cool air only comes out the upper vents, and the relative flow determines the resulting temp in the rear. That control mix is determined by the blend air door. So let me know the type of system and then you can try the self-calibation and see if that fixes the situation.

QUESTION: Just got home from work, I'll change clothes and go look for the blend door. It does have the automatic control panel, with separate driver, passenger, and rear controls. There's also a high control by the back seats that we can turn on for passengers. Thanks Roland!

ANSWER: You are welcome. Thanks for the description of which set up you have.

QUESTION: Okay, your description helped my figure out (I think) how the doors control the air path around the heater core. After popping off the top duct, I could see it.  It seems the doors move and seal properly for both heat and cool. (the heat works FINE, by the way).  However, the coolant lines don't seem to sweat or show any temperature differential as they go into the rear expansion valve, and I couldn't see any sweating on the evaporator through the duct opening, even after it had been running quite a while.  Since the front A/C is cold, I'm even more puzzled.  Does this help or confuse matters worse?

Answer
Hi Dave,
It would appear that there is an issue with the rear ac plumbing. Unfortunately the '05 manual doesn't have any info about troubleshooting specific issues.
You might try performing the heater/ac control calibration stardard procedure on the chance that there might be some self-corrective action:
Turn the key to the ON (run) position.
Then depress and hold simultaneously the Power and the Reciculation buttons for at least 5 seconds. The Delay and Recirculation graphics should begin to flash when the calibration begins and you can release the buttons as the calibration continues. When the graphics stop flashing the calibration is done.
If the graphics don't stop flashing then a fault has been found and a diagnostic trouble code has been set. A Chrysler Diagnostic Readout Box III is needed to find out what is the code. If the graphics continue to flash, they will stop doing so after you drive 8 miles or do the DRB III readout.
I hope something comes of that. Is there any chance that the warranty is still in place?
