can you give me a brief overview of what to expect when I change
a subframe on a 1999 300m?

Are you speaking of the the engine cradle (crossmember)? There is a 13-step in and out procedure described in the shop manual if that is of interest to you. Otherwise, define what you mean by the 'subframe' as I find no such part listed. Also, because I haven't tried it I don't have any idea of what to expect. But I will text the procedure if you are interested in that.
