Chrysler Repair: Transmission from Chrysler Cirrus -96 to Sebring Coupé -95?, chrysler cirrus, chrysler cirrus 96

Question
Hi!

My Chrysler Sebring just broke down in the city spitting out transmission-oil(?). So I drove it home regardless to the loss of oil and everything worked great, but when the oil level was even more low I cannot drive it anymore (I ofcourse dont drive it anyway). I dont know why it started to lose transmission-oil so I bought a transmission from a Chrysler Cirrus -96 2.5 V6 automatic, will this fit my Chrysler Sebring with the same engine and transmission, maybe a dumb question =) ?

Also, what do you think about the loss of transmission oil, it is coming from under the motor/transmission and not from any pipe/hoses =(

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Answer
Hi Jonathan,
The transmissions are clearly of the same type, visually. The Sebring is listed in the '95 manual as model F4AC1-2-QZAF for use in the same engine 2.5L V-6, while in the Cirrus '96 it is called a 41TE. I believe that has to do with the lineage of the two models (nominal countries of origin).
There could be some subtle differences about which I am unaware. One possible difference is the final drive ratio, 3.91 vs. 4.08 which would affect the rpm at a given speed and the speedo reading but that can be reset with a diagnostic readout box if it bothers you. It may be a typo in one or the other of the two manuals, however.
You might want to get the TCM from the donor car just in case there is something that is different in the preset factors.
I have the wiring diagrams for both vehicles but it would be a fairly lengthy job to compare them and verify whether they are identical/different because again the formats of the two are quite different.
Given your limited choices, I would give it a try.
I can't comment knowledgeably on the leak source, from a distance.
