Chrysler Repair: 02 Sebring: 41TE transmission, code 0605, transmission control module, grounding wires

Question
My 02 Seabring's transmission will not shift out of 1st gear.  I had the codes run.  The first code is P0605, Internal Control Module Read Only Memory error.  The second code is P0700, Transmission Control System Malfunction.  What does that mean, and what should I do now to get this fixed?

Answer
Hi Mike,
The 0605 is only repaired by first checking the power supply wire and the grounding wires of the transmission control module; if nothing results from that effort then replacing the module is the only solution. The ground wires are on pins 53 and 57 of the plug, and the case of the tcm should also be grounded by its being in good contact with the mounting bracket for it. The power is 12V supplied on pin 56 from fuse 9 in the box under the hood. After the replacement module is installed there is a 'quick learn' procedure that can be done with a Chrysler diagnostic readout box III and also the pinion factor (gear ratio) of the transmission is programmed into the module so the speedometer related controls are accurately sensed.
The 0700 is set in the memory as a general alert that another specific fault code has also been set.
