Chrysler Repair: rough running 2006 PT Cruiser, coolant temp, vacuum line

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2006 PT Cruiser, it is a rough running when it is first started up.  It runs fine once you take off. If the Air conditioner is turn on it seems like it wants to quit at stop lights.  If you turn the Air Conditioner off  it settles down.  It was taken to a Chrysler dealer and they found nothing wrong with it,  but it keeps happening.  No fault codes have came up.

ANSWER: Hi Gray,
Without fault code it is hard to know what to suggest. You could keep checking for one for free at an Autozone parts store until something comes up. The othere possibility, if it only occurs when the engine is cold, is that the egr valve may be sticking slightly ajar. You could spray some WD-40 on the valve stem and work it back and forth with the tip of a screwdriver inserted in the slot. I am not certain if your model/engine has an egr, so check on the under hood sticker which would show a vacuum line directed to the egr.

QUESTION: From the looks of it my car does not have a EGR valve, I have stopped at autozone several times to try to catch it no luck.

Answer
Hi Gray,
The only thing that I can suggest is to check the resistance of the coolant temp sensor to make sure that it is not off-value, but not so much as to set a code. It should read in the range of 3,000-4,000 ohms when cold and then drop down to 700-1000 ohm at running temp. If it reads lower than 3,000 when cold it might cause the mixture to be too lean.
