Chrysler Repair: Chrysler LHS: transmission shift cable replacement., 1999 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
QUESTION: How hard is it to replace the shifter cable on a 1999 Chrysler LHS, floor shift automatic transmission. I am not sure I want to tackle this one.  Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Tim,
It is about a dozen steps in each direction but doesn't appear to be anything a handy-person couldn't do. It covers a couple of pages with some illustrations in the service manual which I can xerox and postal mail to you. Let me know a postal address. It is also covered in the Haynes manual for the car if you have access to that one.

PS Thanks for the rating and nomination. Yes, as I answered subsequently, the manual suggests getting at those bolts from underneath the vehicle. Let me know if you run into other problems. I hope that you might have the Haynes manual or other manual that lists the dozen or so step in and out.

QUESTION: Roland,

I got the cable installed yesterday, not bad. What a difference, shifts like new. I have another problem, Now the blower motor will not stop running on High. The fan control does not seem to work. I can eben disconnect the controls and the blower motor will not stop. Maybe I bumped something running the new shifter, but not sure what that would be.
Any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Tim,
The blower motor has 12V feed from fuse 23 whenever the ignition is in the run position. The motor return wire either goes to the resistor block(manual temp control) or the temp control power module (auto temp control) and so either the return wire is shorted to ground on the way, or the block/module is shorting it to ground due to an internal failure of that component. The fact that disonnecting the control won't stop it shows that the control panel itself is not the problem. Check over that return wire from the motor to find out where it is being shorted to ground. The feed wire with 12V on it is dark green. The block/module is mounted nearby to the motor in an air duct of the HVAC unit. I'm pleased that the shifter cable replacement worked out for you.
