Chrysler Repair: 95 Cirrus: No start, crankshaft sensor, crank sensor

Question
QUESTION: just wondering what may be some of the reasons for engine not firing, the worst possible situation and some ball park figures?  Thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Dennis,
Use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on' to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure an accurate set of flash counts. Tell me the counts in order of appearance and we'll go from there.

QUESTION: Hi roland yea i read that on another of your posts unfortunately the car is not readily available meaning its in the next town over so i was jst kinda trying to get some idea of possible problems and costs.   I will b going over to the car later to get the read out as u instructed but would like a heads up as I may not bother getting it fixed and jst get financed for a new one.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Dennis,
The codes are 2-digit numbers, so you pair up the flash counts as they appear.
The last two sets of flashes always are 5 and 5 which means 'end of readout'.
The most likely other flashes before that are 1 and 1, or 5 and 4, or both.
The 1 and 1 means a crankshaft sensor is bad
The 5 and 4 means the distributor sensor is bad.
The crank sensor is under $100
The distributor (rebuilt) is under $300.
Either one you can do yourself. So count very carefully, Repeat until you are sure you have the counts correctly.
