Chrysler Repair: torque converter bolts hitting oil pan?, plymouth grand voyager, engine oil leak

Question
QUESTION: i have a 1999 plymouth grand voyager 3.8 i have a engine oil leak coming from the torque converter dust cover this happened rather rapidly within a week and excessive leakage 1/2qt. to 40mi. could it be a rear main seal or is there oil gallery plugs in the rear of the block that could be leaking?  thanks Ray Holsten

ANSWER: Hi Ray,
The manual shows there to be oil gallery plugs and describes their removal and insertion. However, there is no detail as to their locations. There are definitely plugs on the sides of the block, but I can't be sure if there are any on the end. My suggestion would be to go to a dealer's parts counter and ask to review the engine parts diagrams for the block. Presumably the drawings there would indicate their locations, as the plugs themselves would be listed as 'parts' and be shown schematically. I would suspect the crankshaft seal given the rate of loss.

QUESTION: have you ever heard of the torque converter bolts hitting the oil pan causing it to bend to form a gap? i have never heard of this on a 3.3 or a 3.8?

Answer
Hi Ray,
No I haven't, but I have to admit that would be something a shop-person might have more opportunity to have experienced. I can imagine a bolt between the flex plate and the torque converter coming loose and doing that.
