Chrysler Repair: Air Conditioner 91 Dodge Dynasty, refrigerant pressure, dodge dynasty

Question
My air blows out all hot air. It worked fine until I had the water pump replaced. Could one thing be related to the other issue?

Answer
Hi Dianna,
It might depend upon which engine you have in the car (2.5L 4 cyl or 3.0/3.3/3.8L 6 cyl) but in no case would I believe that if the job was done right that the compressor or its tubing would have to be disturbed (On the 2.5 the compressor needs to be moved but that should not disturb the system if done right). It could be that the charge of refrigerant just became too low to allow the compressor to come into play by chance/coincidence. Also, on the 2.5L there is a heater circuit by-pass valve which might not have been reconnected so that when you have the AC 'on' you are fighting against the heater output. So if you have the 2.5L ask the shop that did the pump to check that out. It is vacuum-operated so it may just have its vacuum line dis-connected.
Let me know anything else you can about the repair and I will try to be more helpful. An A.C. shop can test the refrigerant pressure level in the system to see if that might be the cause. You can tell if the problem is likely the refrigerant level if when you try defrost or AC the compressor fails to come into service You can look at it or listen for it to start up or not. If it does start up then the refrigerant level is not the issue. Then I would wonder about whether the vacuum line that causes the temperature control door to move as it should, and if not then I would suggest that the shop check the vacuum line that runs from the booster brake canister to the heater/ac control panel in the cabin to be sure it is connected at both ends.
