Chrysler Repair: 03 voyager electric wing mirror wont fold, ebay autos, chrysler voyager

Question
QUESTION: Hi,  I have just brought an 03 Chrysler Voyager and found that the drivers side electric mirror does not function properly.  When I press the button to fold them away it just makes allot of clicking sounds??? Is this possible to fix myself or is it just a case of straight replacement?

ANSWER: Hi Ben,
If the 'clicking' is coming from the mirror housing, that would be the place to look. If on the other hand the clicking is coming from inside the vehicle that would suggest it is an electrical malfunction, at least requiring some checking of that to begin.
If it is coming from the mirror proper:
The only way to find out is to remove the mirror from the door and operate it so that you can observe the problem to see if it is adjustable/repairable or has a damaged gear that requires replacement of the unit. It appears that you have to remove the trim cover just above the mirror arm on the outside (use a soft pry stick), then remove the bolts that hold it to the door. You can leave the electrical connector attached while you try operating it to see inside what the 'action' is doing.

QUESTION: Hi,  Thanks for the quick response, I have taken the mirror housing off and have observed that it is the mechanism (gear i presume) that actually turns the housing that is the problem it does not seem to rotate properly and when it twists to the catch it continues to try and keep turning hence the clicking sound. Is this fixable? I mean is it easier to buy a new gear and fit or should i just go for the whole unit new?

Answer
Hi Ben,
It appears that Chrysler doesn't sell parts for these power mirrors but you could check at a dealer parts department to be sure of that. You might also try an aftermarket source such as eBay autos to see if there is a alternative vendor that would be less costly. Lastly would be a pull-it-yourself wrecking yard.
