Chrysler Repair: lights stuck on, headlamp switch, orange wire

Question
This morning I hit a hard bump while checking mail, noticed my dash highbeam headlight indicator was on ( I run highbeams all the time when lights are on due to cloudy headlights. Went and parked. Noticed later my tail lights were flickering. Loosened ground cable for a couple of hours (noticed clicking noise). Upon re connecting cable, all lights remained on even though dash switch was off. Thanks

Answer
Hi Dana,
The headlight and tail lights are controlled by the body computer which has a 'sense' function which recognizes when a wire attached to pin 3 of the black plug of the headlamp switch (8-pin plug) has been grounded by turning 'on' the headlamps switch. The wire that is grounded is light green/orange and runs from the headlamp switch pin to pin 13 of the body control (which is located on the back side of the underdash fuse box) and is found at pin 13 of one of the 2 natural color plug of that module (the plug that is numbered 1-40). So the question is how did that wire get grounded. Either it shorted to ground, or the headlamp switch shorted it to ground even though the switch is turned 'off'. I would go to the headlamp switch and remove the black plug and see if that kills the lights. If so, then the switch has an internal short between pin 3 and pin 2 of that plug socket, or possibly a short in the two adjacent wires. Pin 3 and 2 of the switch should only be connected when you have the switch in the headlamp 'on' position.
If removing the plug doesn't turn off the lights then the dark green/orange wire is somehow being shorted along its path to the body computer pin.
What the body computer does is to energize relays to light the headlamps, etc. and that is what you hear to be clicking. That makes me believe that the short to the bcm is intermittent, and that is what is causing the relays to click that way.
Let me know what you learn.
